Cooling buildings in hot humid climates – a decision model for ventilation
The study that is being undertaken at the University of Porto, Portugal, aims at creating a decision tool, based on the appropriate ventilation strategies for the cooling of buildings in hot humid climates. The climatic conditions of the Amazonic region of Manaus are taken as an example of this type of climate. First, we have to identify every single architectural or climatic parameter related ...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Corn Silage Quality in Hot and Humid Climates
Dairy farmers in many parts of the world rely on corn silage as a source of digestible fiber and readily fermentable energy for their cattle. In Florida, Georgia and many tropical countries, such farmers face several climatic challenges that can complicate corn silage production including temperatures that reduce the rate of photosynthesis (Crafts-Brandner and Salvucci, 2002) and reduction in p...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Simplified Simulation Tool for High Performance K-5 Schools in Hot and Humid Climates
This paper presents the preliminary results of an effort to develop a simplified simulation-based tool for designing K-5 high performance schools in hot and humid climates. As a first step of the research, a survey to define the dominant school building shape was conducted in an independent school district in Central Texas. This survey used satellite views of the K-5 schools, where each school ...

Abstract The US government has set a target of reducing CO2 emissions by 20% below the 2005 targets by the year 2020. Literature review reveals that residential buildings contribute over 20% of the total emissions mainly used for space heating, cooling, water heating and lighting. In hot humid climates, the concern is mainly for cooling and hot water that account for over 50% of the total resid...
متن کاملThermoregulatory, cardiovascular, and perceptual responses to intermittent cooling during exercise in a hot, humid outdoor environment.
Decreasing core body temperature during exercise may improve exercise tolerance, facilitate acclimatization, and prevent heat illness during summer training. We sought to evaluate the effectiveness of intermittent superficial cooling on thermoregulatory, cardiovascular, and perceptual responses during exercise in a hot humid environment. We used a randomized, counterbalanced, repeated measures ...
